18" Dolls and patterns

Elizabeth Claire

I love to sew and since I'm building a new sewing room I'm getting more interested in making doll clothes.  I gave Claire a Magic Attic Doll many years ago and so enjoyed making clothes for her.  I have adopted 'Elizabeth Claire" from Claire for a little while...until Claire has a little girl.  I prefer the Magic Attic dolls over the American Girl because they have a slimmer vinyl body vs the chubby cloth body of the AG.

As I'm searching the web for dolls, accessories and free doll patterns I thought I might start posting some great sites here.

http://www.agplaythings.com/AG%20Patterns/DollDressPatterns.html  They have all of the American Girl sewing patterns here to download free since AG no longer prints or sells the patterns. Here are a lot of patterns for the Magic Attic dolls http://www.morrisseydolls.com/magic.html .

And, look what I found!!!  A fabulous wardrobe!!!  http://www.dollsclothes-emilyrose.com/Doll-Storage-Cabinet-White-p/ins811.htm

I'm always on the lookout for dolls and accessories at a great price.  If you're ever interested in selling your dolls let me know.

Stephen and his wisdom teeth

Before and After

Stephen had his 4 wisdom teeth and one more removed last Thursday.  Those things were HUGE!  He had general anesthesia, was in recovery for about an hour and six hours after arriving at the hospital we were on our way home.  The doctors and nurses were all rather interested in Stephen's syndrome, Cri du chat, and his pre-op nurse has a disabled son which made from very interesting and parallel experience conversation.

Picking paint colors and bathroom tile

Claire, Stephen and I spent the day tracking down tile to go with the middle tan/grey/creme tile (in 1st picture) that we got for a great price, but it needed a little something to make it special.  Claire, my little graphic designer, is working on a design for the shower and floor and we hope the tile installer will be so very excited to create her design.
Bathroom: top accent tiles, middle floor and shower tile, bottom granite on vanity,
wall paint: Sherwin-Williams 6213 Halcyon Green

We also spent some time deciding on paint.

Left set: Sewing room wall paint, Right set: Bedroom wall paint
Den and bedroom carpet: Stainmaster Thumbs Up Owl Feather
Tray Ceiling Paint: SW 6213 Halcyon Green

Sewing room
Top: SW 7736 Garden Sage, two accent walls
Bottom: SW 7698 Straw Harvest, other walls
Tray Ceiling Paint: SW 6213 Halcyon Green

Floors: Walnut

Basement Renovations

Well, we're building out the basement and boy is it a lot of work..but fun.  Claire is graduating from college in May and we wanted her to have a private place to live and to come and go as she chooses without disturbing us.  Her room is very large and she will have space for her bed and an office area and her bathroom is going to be lovely with a tiled 60" shower.  The kitchen will be built using IKEA cabinets and we just purchased a Frigidaire refrigerator and stacking washer and dryer.  Art and I just might fight over who gets to move down there!  Watch out Claire!!

I will finally get a lovely sewing room after 15 years of sewing in an unfinished area.

From IKEA I am purchasing 3-36" 3-drawer kitchen cabinets http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S59814162 with a butcher block countertop and 2 tall glass door cabinets http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S29811867 to go along the back wall of my room. I plan to use the drawers to store my stash instead of the plastic boxes I've been using and books and other fabric will go on the shelves in the tall cabinets. I have a great bookcase, from IKEA, Expedit http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60071358 that houses all of my books that will be placed on the other end of the room.

I want to buy a new table http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S19836095 for my sewing machines and sergers but may wait a bit and use my old tabletops on file drawers for a while.

I have a wonderful old metal music library cabinet that has 30 narrow drawers where I keep all of my sewing supplies. On top I have my cutting board/work table that my Mom and I made out of sheet of plywood covered with an old wool blanket and canvas. I've replaced the top several times over the years and now have a top, with 1" square measurements on top, that I purchased from a man at the Sewing Expo.

The floors will be walnut laminate and I want to put my Dad's oriental rug in the seating area of the room where I will have some comfy chairs and a table.

Lighting....now that's something we're still working out. I think I might want some cans in the soffits of the tray ceiling. My husband is insisting on 3 recessed fluorescent fixtures up the middle of the room. I want 2 and to hang a family antique chandelier in the middle. Still working on that issue! I also purchased several 3-halogen light adjustable fixtures that I want to put in several places in the room. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20088681
